Edwin “Ed” Smith is the Director of Global Services and Certification in North America for Smartmatic. In this role Ed oversees Service Delivery as well as US federal and state certification. He also serves as a
subject matter expert in areas of system development, process improvement, and product enhancement as well as technical pre-sales across all product lines: electronic pollbook, vote capture, tabulation, and digital identity. In his current role Ed directed and continues to direct Service Delivery for the groundbreaking Los Angeles County Voting Solutions for All People (VSAP) election system transformation that debuted in the 2020 California Primary. This included Level 2 Help Desk, State of California Certification, warranty/maintenance of over 31,000 ballot marking devices, and other aspects of the new system implementation at the largest County in the United States. Ed served as a subject matter expert to ISO 9001 implementation, Training, Documentation, Warehousing and other areas of this massive project.
For calendar 2022 Ed chairs the Elections Infrastructure Sector Coordinating Council of the Department of Homeland Security. Prior to joining Smartmatic Ed held a number of management positions at other voting system manufacturers. He developed and implemented corporate level strategies for market entry, share enhancement, and operations. With over 80 State and ten federal voting system certifications to his
credit, Ed is regarded as an expert in system certification, deployment, and security and has been a speaker at numerous EAC Hearings and election industry conferences. Prior to entering elections, he held leadership positions in electronics manufacturing.
